Here are the synopses I did for the two halves of the album.

Part One:

"Universes, like football, is a game (album) of two halves. It was written over a four year period, and covers a time in my life where I grew up a lot and my perspective changed dramatically.

This first half of the album covers youth, anxieties, hangovers and unrequited love. The songs appear in the order they were written, and it's for this reason (plus a couple of others) that I'd recommend listening to this album on headphones and giving it your full attention if you want to get the most from it.

Both halves of Universes were recorded on my home 'studio' between Summer 2013 and August 2014, with my good friends Drew and Harriet providing mastering and album cover duties respectively.

A lot of hours went in to these recordings, a lot of late nights and tweaking, frustration and unexpected triumphs. I hope that you enjoy this first half, and stay tuned for Part Two, which will follow soon after."

Part Two:

"And so our Universes journey is complete. Part One was, in places, a solemn affair, full of doubts and concern. But there's a reason it ended with a song called 'I'm Learning'. Moving on to Part Two, we find my viewpoint is a little less insular, a little more (dare I say it) universal. These songs were written between 2011 and 2013 and reflect a time in my life where I seemed to be discovering new ways to look at the world around me all the time. And of course, the songs I was writing were affected by it. Apologies for those who like the whole 'brevity' thing, as the Dude puts it - Part One had a couple of 2 minute tunes, whereas Part Two has an 8-minuter, plus a handful of 5's and 6's. I really hope that this translates into a more immersive experience for you, dear listener, and as I said in the notes for Part One, this music would be best enjoyed with headphones at a time when you can give it your full attention. Because after all, attention can be a profound thing."

The two halves are now whole, and the 'Universes' journey is done. I realise that people don't tend to listen to albums as much any more, but I felt there was no other way to present this experience. 14 tracks is a lot to take in, certainly in one sitting anyway, but I hope that you find the time to listen all the way through, at least once. It was a journey that was important for me, and I hope it is one that is relateable and that you can enjoy and learn from, too.
